A collaboration between Great Northern Hydroponics  and GE Energy has resulted in the installation of a massive greenhouse cogeneration plant in Ontario, Canada. Powering the 55-acre Soave tomato greenhouse complex, the installed 12-megawatt gas engine also feeds enough electricity into the grid to support 12 000 to 15 000 Canadian homes annually. In addition to generating power and heat to support greenhouse operations, the power plant also treats the exhaust fumes, enabling CO2 from the exhaust to be recycled and applied as a special fertiliser to enhance greenhouse crop production.
