From the Series
From bowls to furniture, South African ceramicist Andile Dyalvane uses traditional techniques in his work while Chilean design group gt2P (Great things to people) use data and technology to create products that embody their heritage.
At Design Indaba Conference 2017, the unlikely collaborators created an interactive installation at Cape Town’s Artscape Theatre, the home of the festival. The Wishing Wall combines gt2p’s signature style of digital crafting or parametric design and Dyalvane’s knowledge of South African heritage.
“The wall, it’s an interactive wall, it’s a hope keeper,” explains Dyalvane. “You wish for something and you put it out there. Some people, if they wish to have something they cut out pictures and put it on the wall. In this case, the hope keeper is the ceramic installation.”
