Gregor Jenkin launches a new collection, Infrastructure, at Design Indaba Expo 2007.
House and Leisure’s Design Indaba Expo stand will showcase Johannesburg-based designer extraordinaire, Gregor Jenkin’s much-awaited new furniture collection, Infrastructure.
As the name suggests, the iconic pieces in Jenkin’s new range draw inspiration from the infrastructure that underpins urban life – among others, street lights, roads, electrical boxes and power cables. Viewed by most as a necessary evil, these utilitarian designs have been translated by Jenkin into objects of exceptional beauty.
Of his ability to find magic in the mundane, Jenkin says "Things you immediately like are too easy. Good design has 'slow burn'. It's an object or design that you don't initially like but remains challenging and captivating."
To commemorate the launch of his new range Jenkin has designed limited edition Infrastructure T-shirts that will be given out free to new subscribers as part of an exclusive House and Leisure subscription offer for Design Indaba Expo visitors only.
