Poker, Rummy or Go Fish, whichever card game you prefer Studio Formafantasma’s deck of cards can provide heaps of entertainment as well as urban knowledge.
In 2012 six product designers from around Europe were invited by the Vienna Tourist Board to capture their view of Vienna in a three-dimensional proposal for a souvenir for the city. Studio Formafantasma's Wien Spielkarten has emerged as the winner.
Opting for something that is treasured as well as useful, Studio Formafantasma designed a set of playing cards that reference historical and modernist aspects of Vienna. Taking examples from museum archives, iconic modernist buildings and traditional Austrian products, the design duo playfully mixed their selection to generate a new and authentic collection of playing cards.
The deck has been locally produced in Vienna by the traditional playing cards company Piatnik & Söhne and is available throughout the city.
