French company Regulsmoke have designed a “smart” way to get smokers to quit. Using a specially designed cigarette box and an accompanying app, Regulsmoke’s Smoking-Stopper limits the number of cigarettes smokers consume per day by restricting the number of cigarettes users are allowed to take from their box.

Smoking-Stopper is a metal smart box in which users place their cigarettes. It comes with a smartphone application that monitors the medical information, fitness and lifestyle information that the user provides. Monitoring the user’s physical and emotional behaviour, the app assigns the user one of 63 smoker profiles. These profiles help the app manage the user’s smoking habits.

The app also puts the user in touch with tobacco treatment specialists and tracks the reduction in the user’s consumption in real time and the benefits to the user’s health.

While a smoker could just go out and purchase a new pack of cigarettes, the company hopes the locked box would deter smokers who are dedicated to achieving their targets.
