It doesn't look like it, but this is a massage chair

The Roll Collection is a seating system that consists of rotatable aluminium sticks, which massage whilst sliding from left to right.

German graphic designer Verena Hennig has redesigned the massage chair with the Roll Collection – a chair, bench and stool made of rotating aluminium rods that shift from left to right and massage the user as they sit.

The collection gets its name from the rolling aluminium rods that form the seats and chair backs.

The design engages with its audience in an intelligent and compelling way. The seats in the collection feature an engaging physical interaction while maintaining a sleek and timeless design. While seated on the chair, the user’s various muscle groups are activated, which helps to relief stress and tension.

Hennig is the founder of Studio Verena Hennig, a design company creating installations, furniture, spaces, identities, images and films for clients ranging from culture to industry. She designed the Roll Collection as an extension of her talents as a graphic designer:

My graphics are minimalist and reduced, so I wanted to create furniture that also only uses minimal lines,” – Verena Hennig.

The creation provides a playful, innovative and engaging experience for the user.

“The power of being able to move while sitting down is freeing and even sparks an interaction not only between the piece of furniture and its user but also between people sharing this experience,” says Hennig.

The Roll Collection is Hennig's first furniture line. Made of powder-coated aluminium, the collection can be used in and outdoors and is available in red, white, beige and black.
