Football, art and design converge in the Interpretations of Africa exhibition at the Design Museum in London, from 8 to 21 November 2011.

Presented by the Design Museum and PUMA.Creative, the exhibition celebrates the brand’s new football kit designs for the ten African National football teams that Puma partners with.

Puma commissioned leading African artists to create new artworks to become the basis for the kit designs.

The brief required the artists to incorporate Africa’s unique visual identity and culture into the basis design for the kits.

The exhibition considers the journey that artists took in this creative process, looking at what inspired their particular demonstration of African culture and history.

Artists involved:

• Zineb Sedira of Algeria

• Barthélémy Toguo of Cameroon

• Saïdou Dicko of Burkina Faso

• Owanto of Gabon

• Godfried Donker of Ghana

• Ernest Düku of Ivory Coast

• Hentie van der Merwe of Namibia

• Samba Fall of Senegal

• Hasan and Husain Essop of South Africa

• El Loko of Togo

Interpretations of Africa: Football, Art and Design shows how Africa’s history and culture can be captured in both an artwork and sportswear design.
