Air traffic control service NATS has created a highly visual interpretation of 24 hours of air traffic in the sky over the five London airports (Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton and London City) using real flight data.
NATS handles over two million flights in UK airspace every year, with over 1.2 million arriving and departing from London’s five main airports. That's 3000 flights coming through just six runways every day!
NATS has released several data visualisation films in the past, including 24 hours over Europe and 24 hours over the whole United Kingdom. In their latest video, London 24, NATS shows the air traffic in a 24-hour period over London each airport is shown in its own bright colour. Enjoy watching the controlled chaos.
