What we talk about when we talk about love is a group exhibition at Stevenson gallery in Cape Town, running until 14 January 2012.
Curated by Federica Angelucci, the exhibition investigates the complexity of spheres of love, desire and self-inquiry. The title of the exhibition is borrowed from a Raymond Carver story and suggests that the search for love is for more than just the romantic love referred to in movies and songs.
Featuring the work of, among others, Anton Kannemeyer, Zanele Muholi, Claudette Schreuders, Wim Botha and Nicholas Hlobo, the selected works look at the relationship we have with ourselves, our likes and dislikes, what we desire or reject, and why.
The works showcased here, many of them made specificaly for the exhibition, in media including film, photography, painting, sculpture and performance all explore some of the layers concealed within the common perception of love, and generate their own questions.
