Unforgettable interiors

Mr Price unveils new decor collection with former Emerging Creative Naledi Modupi.

Much-loved South African brand Mr Price Home teamed up with former Design Indaba Emerging Creative, Johannesburg-based visual artist and illustrator Naledi Modupi, for a decor collection inspired by her artworks.

The Mr Price x Naledi Modupi collaboration, underpinned by Modupi’s belief that ‘your home is a vibrant reflection of who you are’, comprises home essentials, including a coffee table, cushions, framed wall art, a laundry basket, blankets, a planter, and a diffuser. The collection, which forms part of a Mr Price Home collaboration with three South African creatives including Astrid Blumer and Chris Cradock, is available to shop in-store and online.

‘Inspired by the beauty she observes in the world, Johannesburg-based visual artist and illustrator Naledi Modupi employs bold design to celebrate the complexity and beauty of womanhood,’ writes Mr Price Home. ‘Each item in this striking range pays tribute to the multifaceted nature of women.

‘For Naledi, home is a sanctuary of the mind and body, a place of true expression and acceptance. Her range so beautifully represents this ethos with an unapologetically powerful narrative woven into every design, exuding a sense of strength and individual expression,’ continues the brand.

Chosen as one of the Design Indaba Emerging Creatives class of 2023, Modupi is a multidimensional visual artist known for her distinctive semi-abstract portraiture that highlights the beauty of black women. The versatile digital artist uses an array of vivid colours, shapes and patterns to capture the individuality and personality of each subject.

‘As an artist, I have taken on the responsibility of shining a light on black women and their unique stories. My work celebrates their beauty and diversity, while also challenging the negative narrative that society often imposes on them,’ the artist told Design Indaba. ‘By sharing these stories, I hope to contribute to a more positive and empathetic understanding of black women and to encourage each individual to see themselves in a more positive light, because I know how much I need that for myself and for other young black women in the world.’

In 2023, Design Indaba interviewed Modupi to find out more about her creative process.
