Cutting-Edge Production Facility for Norwegian Family Fishery

Snøhetta, the internationally acclaimed architecture studio, has designed a state-of-the-art production facility for a family-owned fishery in Holmøy Maritime in Vesterålen. Designed with sustainability and regional context in mind, this facility integrates with the natural environment whilst enhancing local and traditional industries.

The facility's design is heavily inspired by the surrounding Norwegian fjords and mountainous landscapes. It uses locally sourced materials, including sustainable timber, reflecting Snøhetta’s commitment to eco-conscious design. One of the key features is its energy-efficient design, aimed at reducing the environmental footprint while maintaining the fishery's high production standards. “Seawater is used to heat and cool the building, in combination with a heat exchanger and heat pump. Filtered seawater is also used in production, and several kilometres of seawater pipelines have been laid in the fjord just outside the plant”.

The new facility design has added a colourful and distinctive building to Vesterålen landscape. Snøhetta’s expertise in color, construction, and architectural details ensures that the structures are functional, inspiring, and foster well-being for the community.
