Check out this year's A’ Design Award winners

The global platform announces its best designers and designs for 2016 to 2017.

The results are in! Considered one of the world’s largest design accolades, the 2017 A’ Design Award & Competition has announced the best designers and designs for the 2016-2017 edition. After careful evaluation by an internationally influential jury panel, 1958 Winners from 98 countries in 97 different design disciplines have been chosen. 

With awards given for categories including Spatial Design, Industrial Design, Communication Design, Fashion, System design, as well as for Achievements in Arts & Literature, the winners are announced every year on April 14th. Below, you can check out some of our favourite winners from this year’s selection and if you click through the slideshow above, you'll see some of the other winners worth mentioning.

Wireframe Affordable wind turbine by Ben Koros

Wireframe is a system that brings cheap electricity to village households. A system that teaches villagers how to build and maintain wind turbines, while also providing the cheapest and most accessible wind turbine (kit) for them to use and spread, it aims to provide whole villages with access to basic household electricity to fuel simple devices, such as LED lighting, radios, electric tools, etc.

X alarm Cigarette Filter by Ladan Zadfar & Mohammad Farshad

Aimed at the psyches of cigarette smokers, the X alarm looks like any other regular filter. When users begin smoking, each puff makes a sketch visible on the top part of filter. Designed so the negative area of the sketch will be covered with a colourless ink, designs such as a heart, a lung, male and female signs and other things that smoking affects, are proven to have a strong mental effect on smokers.

ToyBox Construction Toy by James Self

Designed to provide the most vulnerable children play opportunities, this product offers users the ability to reuse existing packaging as a construction toy. Once emptied the box is then repurposed to provide opportunities for play and learning. Construction pieces are perforated within the box for quick and simply removal.

Beyond Blind glasses by Alberto Vasquez

Beyond is a glasses collection for blind people. Focused on providing a product that can aid in the social and emotional integration of the blind community, the product works by protecting their eyes against dust and other unforeseeable impacts. Made of copper and manufactured by cold forming processes, it is completely useless for sighted individuals, serving more as a statement piece for members of the blind community.

Donation Point Tap Cashless Donation Acceptor by Jan Mason

As cash-free methods of payment are on the rise, a decline in cash donations has significantly impacted the fundraising bottom line for many charities. Donation Point Tap is an affordable contactless payment device, specifically developed for charities and not for profit organisations. It's a fuss-free alternative to declining coin donations using a contactless credit or debit card.
